Mid-Yuán 元 Confucian-educational and court official, yǐxíngjiànyúrén (self-cultivating-and-influencing-others) scholar. Zhònglǐ 仲禮; hào Dōngān 東庵 (“Eastern-Hut”). Native of Dìngzhōu 定州 (modern Héběi).

Scholarly characterization. Yáo Suì’s 姚燧 mùjié míng (preserved in KR4d0465 Mùān jí) describes Téng as mǐnxiū dǔxíng, xué jī qí gōng, dào xíng qí jiā, huà jí qí xiāng (quick-cultivated, sincere-acting; learning accumulated in his person, the Way practiced in his home, his transformation extended to his township) — the classical Confucian self-cultivation-to-others formula. Wú Chéng’s 吳澄 Wénzhèng jí concurs: Téng had xué, xíng, and wén (learning, conduct, literary skill).

  • Dōngān lèigǎo 東庵類稿 (15 juàn per Yáo Suì; Jiāo Hóng’s Jīngjí zhì mistakenly records 16 juàn). Cut by Zhào Bǐngzhèng 趙秉政 (Jiāngxī liánfǎngshǐ). The Sìkù recovery of c. 200 poems in 4 juàn (the present KR4d0459) is a fraction of the original.
  • Yìjiě 易解 (Classic of Changes commentary; lost; preserved at home per Yáo Suì)
  • Xǐxīn guǎnjiàn 洗心管見 (philosophical work; lost; preserved at home per Yáo Suì)

Prose. Sū Tiānjué’s Yuán wénlèi preserves one jìwén by Téng: Jì Yàn sīyè xiānshēng wén 祭硯司業先生文 (Sacrificial-Text for Master Yàn the Sīyè). Yáo Suì records Téng’s prose as yī běn lǐyì (rooted in moral-principle), cízhǐ chàngdá (words-and-meanings smooth-and-conveying). The remainder of Téng’s prose corpus is lost.
