Late-Míng man of letters, official, and literary critic; native of Tàicāng 太倉 (modern Sūzhōu prefecture, Jiāngsū). Zì Jìngměi 敬美; hào Línzhōu 麟洲, Sǔnzhāi 損齋, Qiángdōngshēng 墻東生. Younger brother of the Hòuqīzǐ leader Wáng Shìzhēn 王世貞 (1526–1590); the two are commonly called “the two Wángs of Tàicāng” 太倉二王. Jìnshì of Jiājìng 38 (1559); held a range of administrative posts including Vice Surveillance Commissioner of Fújiàn (whence his Mǐnbù shū 閩部疏, KR2k0238), Right Administration Vice-Commissioner of Shǎnxī, and Senior Bureau Secretary of the Court of the Imperial Stud (Tàipúsì shǎoqīng 太僕寺少卿). Author of more than a dozen works including the Wáng Línzhōu jí 王麟州集 (KR4d0291), the Yìpǔ xiéyú 秇圃擷餘, and notes on antiquities and fruit cultivation. Critically he is treated by the Sìkù editors as a more measured voice than his celebrated elder brother: while sharing the Hòuqīzǐ commitment to High-Táng models, he was the first inside the school to acknowledge that the Archaist programme was running into mimetic excess and to predict (“shùshí nián hòu bì yǒu yàn ér sǎo chú zhě”) the reaction that would come from the late-Míng Gōngān 公安 school.
