Twelfth-century Southern Sòng connoisseur of ancient bronzes and seal-impressions; zì Zǐbiàn 子弁 (variant transmission: name as 球, zì Kuíyù 夔玉 or Kuíshí 夔石). Son of one Chángrú 長孺, a friend and tóngnián jìnshì of Lǐ Bǐng 李邴 of Jìzhōu 濟州 Rènchéng 任城 (present-day Shāndōng) — making Wáng Qiú a Shāndōng man. No precise lifedates are recoverable; activity bracketed by Lǐ Bǐng’s career (jìnshì 1121, active to mid-1140s). Author of KR3h0085 Xiàotáng jígǔ lù 嘯堂集古錄 (2 juàn), one of the four foundational Sòng jīnshí xué works recording ShāngHàn ritual bronzes with inscription tracings and modern-script glosses. CBDB lists a Míng-period Wáng Qiú (id 126618, 1445–1507) — a different person, not to be confused with the Sòng author. Lǐ Bǐng’s preface to the Xiàotáng notes that Wáng Qiú was already known in his lifetime for his calligraphic expertise in ancient scripts (jīng yú gǔzì); collectors from all directions sought his hand on silk.
