Wáng Zǐchéng 王子成

A Yuán-dynasty lay-Buddhist scholar of the Pure Land tradition. Lifedates not recorded with precision; he was active in the mid- to late-Yuán period (probably c. 1280–1340), and is identified through the colophons of his work as a literatus jūshì 居士 affiliated with Pure Land monastic circles. CBDB lists a 王子成 (id 200985, b. 1460) but this is a Míng-period figure whose dates are inconsistent with the Yuán dating of the present work; the catalog meta dating of Yuán is followed here, and the CBDB Míng-period 王子成 is treated as a homonym.

His major surviving work is the 《禮念彌陀道場懺法》 Lǐniàn Mítuó dàochǎng chànfǎ KR6p0084 (X1467, 10 juǎn), a comprehensive ten-juǎn Pure Land repentance liturgy. The work is one of the most extensive lay-compiled Pure Land chànfǎ in the Chinese tradition and supplies a complete liturgical apparatus for an extended Pure Land repentance retreat. Beyond this work no substantial biographical record survives.
