Wáng Huáiyǐn 王懷隱 (fl. 太平興國 / 淳化 era, 978–992), of Sòngzhōu 宋州 (later Yīngtiānfǔ 應天府, modern Shāngqiū, Hénán). A senior court physician of the early Northern Sòng. Originally a Daoist priest at the Jiànlóngguàn 建隆觀 in Kāifēng, he was summoned out of the priesthood by Sòng Tàizōng and appointed Hànlín Yīguānshǐ 翰林醫官使 (Master of the Hanlin Medical Office). In 太平興國 3 (978) he was promoted to Shàngyào Fèngyù 尚藥奉御 (Supervising Imperial Physician) and put in charge of the imperial-formulary project. With Wáng Yòu 王祐, Zhèng Yán 鄭顏, and Chén Zhāoyù 陳昭遇 he led the compilation of the Tàipíng shènghuì fāng 太平聖惠方 (KR3ed007), 100 juǎn, finished 982 and printed 992. Tàizōng’s preface to that work names him in first place among the four compilers. No biography in Sòngshǐ; the chief biographical sources are the imperial preface itself and the Sòng huìyào jígǎo 宋會要輯稿 records of medical office. Not in CBDB.
