Wáng Shǎn 王掞 (1645–1728), zì Zǎorú 藻儒, hào Zhuān’ān 顓菴, posthumous title Wéngōng 文恭, was a high Kāngxī-court official from Tàicāng 太倉 (modern Jiāngsū). Son of Wáng Shìmǐn 王時敏, the famous early-Qīng painter (one of the “Four Wángs”). Jìnshì of Kāngxī 9 (1670). Rose through the Hànlín to Grand Secretary of the Wényuāngé 文淵閣大學士 兼 Lǐbù shàngshū 禮部尚書. He had a long career as a jīngyán 經筵 lecturer (imperial-classics-mat lecturer) and as supervisor of imperial classical compilations under Kāngxī.
In 1715 (Kāngxī 54) he was appointed zǒngcái 總裁 (chief director of compilation) of the Qīn dìng Chūnqiū chuán shuō huì zuǎn 欽定春秋傳說彙纂 (KR1e0094) in 38 juǎn, the principal Kāngxī-era Chūnqiū compilation, completed and published in Kāngxī 60 (1721); Zhāng Tíngyù 張廷玉 (張廷玉) served as a junior compiler and jiào duì 校對 on the same project. Wáng was implicated in the late-Kāngxī succession crisis as a partisan of the deposed crown prince Yìnréng 胤礽; under Yōngzhèng he was forced into retirement.
