Qī fǎshī 磧法師 (“Master Qī”; lifedates unknown), Suí-period Chinese Buddhist monk of the Sānlùn 三論 lineage, named in the colophon of KR6m0035 Sānlùn yóuyì yì 三論遊意義 (T1855) as the author of that one-fascicle Sān-lùn-school doctrinal-systematic treatise. The bare-name attribution “Master Qī” 碩法師 is unusual; no secure biographical context is preserved. The name appears nowhere else in the standard Sino-Japanese Buddhist hagiographic record (Gāosēng zhuàn, Xù gāosēng zhuàn, Sòng gāosēng zhuàn, etc.) and the Sānlùn lineage-tradition records (preserved in Eichō’s 永超 Tōiki dentōroku 東域傳燈目錄 and successor catalogs) likewise do not supply biographical detail.

The work’s doctrinal content (covering the Sānlùn programme, the Madhyamaka zōng 宗, and the wúfāng wènnán 無方問難 polemical method) is consistent with a mid-Suí (c. 580–610) Sānlùn author working in the orbit of 吉藏 吉藏 (549–623) or one of his immediate teachers. Some scholars (Hirai 1976) have proposed that 磧 may be a graphic variant or scribal abbreviation of a longer monastic name, but no secure identification has been made.
