Chéng Chuān 程川
Style name Fūqú 鄜渠, sobriquet Chūntán 春曇. Native of Qiántáng 錢塘 (modern Hángzhōu 杭州). Nominated to the Qiánlóng 1 (1736) special Bóxué hóngcí 博學鴻詞 examination but the result is not preserved. The sole surviving documentation of his life is the Sìkù tíyào on his Zhū zǐ Wǔ jīng yǔ lèi 朱子五經語類 (KR1g0027), which records that he completed the work in Yōngzhèng yǐsì 雍正乙巳 (Yōngzhèng 3 = 1725) while studying at the Fūwén shūyuàn 敷文書院 in Hángzhōu. He must therefore have been an active scholar by the late Yōngzhèng era, born no later than c. 1700.
His work the Zhū zǐ Wǔ jīng yǔ lèi is one of the more useful Yōngzhèng-era extracts of Zhū Xī’s recorded sayings on the Wǔ jīng: it organizes the relevant passages from Lí Jìngdé 黎靖德’s Zhū zǐ yǔ lèi by jīng and topic, with the disciple-recorder’s name and the year of recording noted under each entry — a useful prosopographic apparatus for tracking the development of Zhū’s classical thought.
CBDB has no separate entry for Chéng Chuān, lifedates undocumented.
