Chéng Shīgōng 程師恭, Shūcái 叔才, late-Kāngxī Anhui (Wǎn) literati, author of the principal commentary on 陳維崧 Chén Wéisōng’s parallel-prose corpus — the Chén Jiǎntǎo sìliù zhù 陳檢討四六注, completed in Kāngxī 32 (1693, guǐyǒu). No CBDB record. Chéng is identified in 王士禛 Wáng Shìzhēn’s Gǔfūyú tíng zá lù 古夫于亭襍録 as having “by sole devotion of his ability annotated the parallel-prose of his fellow-townsman whom he had never met in person” — Chéng was a shēngyuán in Wǎn (Anhui), not Yíxìng (Jiāngsū) Chén’s native place, and never met Chén Wéisōng but undertook the annotation after Chén’s death and after the Jiǎng Jǐngqí editorial cǎotáng recension. The Sìkù tíyào of KR4f0031 criticizes Chéng’s annotations on multiple points of allusion-recognition but credits his philological labor for the parallel-prose’s transmission, since sìliù parallel-prose without annotation is largely unreadable for posterity.
