Guǎn Zhòng 管仲 (d. 645 BCE), míng Yíwú 夷吾, was the celebrated Spring-and-Autumn-era Chancellor of Duke Huán 桓 of Qí 齊 (r. 685–643 BCE), credited with making Qí the first hegemon (bà 霸). Biography: Shǐjì j. 62. Conventional traditional author of the Guǎnzǐ 管子 (KR3c0001) — though the received text is universally regarded as a Warring States compilation in 24 juan / 76 piān drawing on Guǎn Zhòng’s reputed administrative-philosophical principles. The work is foundational to the Chinese economic and administrative tradition; its Qīng zhòng 輕重 chapters are among the earliest extant Chinese works on price-and-currency theory.
