Fàn Chùyì 范處義

Hào Yìzhāi 逸齋. Native of Jīnhuá 金華 (modern Zhèjiāng). Jìnshì of the Shàoxīng era (1131–62), in the cohort of Zhāng Xiàoxiáng 張孝祥 (the 1154 examination). Lifedates not recoverable. CBDB notes that his lineage was connected to that of Fàn Zhòngyān 范仲淹, and his biography is attached to Zhòngyān’s in the Chū jí (Jīnhuá local gazetteer 18.6b; CBD 2.1671).

Author of Shī bǔ zhuàn 詩補傳 in 30 juǎn (KR1c0013). Originally circulated under the hào alone (“composed by Yìzhāi”); the attribution to Fàn Chùyì rests on the Sòngshǐ Yìwénzhì and the late-Míng Jùlètáng shūmù of Zhū Mùjué 朱睦㮮, which gives the name directly. He is the leading Southern-Sòng -defender — diametrically opposed to Zhèng Qiáo 鄭樵 (KR1c0019), whom the Sìkù editors pair with him as the most extreme -attacker of the same generation.
