Xiāo Zǐxiǎn 蕭子顯
Zì Jǐngyáng 景陽. Native of Lánlíng 蘭陵 (the ancestral home of the QíLiáng Xiāo imperial lineage; modern Wǔjìn 武進, Jiāngsū). Grandson of Qí Gāodì 齊高帝 Xiāo Dàochéng 蕭道成 and son of Yǔzhāng wáng 豫章王 Xiāo Yí 蕭嶷.
Career: served the Liáng dynasty (502–557) that displaced his ancestral Qí. Held Tàizǐ shěrén 太子舍人, Hànlín xuéshì, and ultimately Wúxīng tàishǒu 吳興太守, dying in officio in 537 at age 49. He was a member of the Liáng Wǔdì 梁武帝 Xiāo Yǎn’s inner circle (Wǔdì being his cousin in the third degree) and a fixture of the literary salons of the Crown Prince Xiāo Tǒng 蕭統 (compiler of the Wén xuǎn).
Principal works: (1) the Nán Qí shū 南齊書 (KR2a0017), the dynastic history of his own grandfather’s house, in 60 juǎn (now 59); presented to the Liáng court ca. 514–537. (2) The Hòu Hàn shū 後漢書 in 100 juǎn (lost); (3) the Pǔtōng běifá jì 普通北伐記 in 5 juǎn (lost); (4) substantial fù and shī, partly preserved in the Wén xuǎn and Yìwén lèijù.
