Xiāo Chángmào 蕭長懋
Zì Yúnqiáo 雲喬. Crown Prince of the Southern Qí 南齊, posthumously titled Wénhuì tàizǐ 文惠太子. Eldest son of Qí Wǔdì 齊武帝 (Xiāo Zé 蕭賾, 440–493) and grandson of Qí Gāodì 齊高帝 (Xiāo Dàochéng 蕭道成, 427–482, founder of the dynasty). Native of Lánlíng 蘭陵 (modern Cháng zhōu 常州). Installed as Crown Prince on his father’s accession in 482; resided at the eastern palace and presided over a major Yǒngmíng-era 永明 (483–493) Confucian-Buddhist court culture together with his younger brother 蕭子良 (Prince of Jìnglíng). Patron of the famous Yǒngmíng-era literary circle (the Bā yǒu 八友, “Eight Friends”). Conducted the well-known Yǒngmíng Xiàojīng seminars at the Chóngzhèng Hall 崇正殿 in 485 and at the Imperial Academy in 487 (see KR1f0015). Died in the first month of 493 at the age of 36, predeceasing his father, and so never reigned; his eldest son Xiāo Zhāoyè 蕭昭業 succeeded the throne on Wǔdì’s death later that year.
