Xuē Xuān 薛瑄 (1389–1464), zì Déwēn 德温, hào Jìngxuān 敬軒, posthumously Wénqīng 文清, was the foundational early-Míng Zhūzǐxué loyalist and the founder of the HéDōng xuépài 河東學派. Native of Héjīn 河津 (Shānxī). Jìnshì of Yǒnglè xīnchǒu (1421); rose to Lǐbù yòu shìláng and entered the cabinet (rù gé yù jī wù); died with posthumous title Lǐbù shàngshū. Within the early-Míng triad of upright Confucians (Cáo Duān 曹端, Hú Jūrén 胡居仁, Xuē Xuān), Xuē is the latest in time and represents the most institutionally established line. The Qiánlóng emperor’s yùzhì opening this work places Xuē above Cáo and Hú as the principal early-Míng daoxué transmitter.
