Xīfāngzǐ 西方子 (“Master from the West”), pseudonymous compiler of the Míngtáng jiǔ jīng 明堂灸經 (KR3e0018) — the eight-juan Sòng-or-Yuán moxibustion treatise printed at Píngyángfǔ 平陽府 in Shǎnxī. The pen-name suggests either a Western Regions origin or a Daoist self-styling; the SKQS editors note that they cannot identify Xīfāngzǐ historically. The book is dated by its Píngyángfǔ printing context to the late Northern Sòng or JīnYuán period (the prefectural printing industry in Píngyáng was active from the late 11th into the 14th c.). The work is exclusively on moxibustion — no acupuncture content — and includes side-and-supine human-figure illustrations that are more detailed than those of the Tóngrén tradition. Xīfāngzǐ has no transmitted biographical record beyond this work.
