Xiè Jiàng 謝絳 (994–1039), Xīshēn 希深 (under which the Sìkù and most pre-modern catalogues cite him), was a Northern-Sòng scholar-official of Fùyáng 富陽 (Hángzhōu prefecture). He took the jìnshì in the eighth year of DàzhōngXiángfú 大中祥符 (1015), held appointments as Yǒuzhèngyán 右正言 in the Imperial Censorate (御史臺), and served as prefect of Dèngzhōu 鄧州, where he died in office in Bǎoyuán 寶元 2 (1039) at age 46. Closely connected with the literary circle around Méi Yáochén 梅堯臣 — his sister was Méi’s wife, and Méi’s surviving correspondence preserves several memorial pieces for him. Authored a Wényǐ jí 文懿集 in collected works (now mostly lost). Best known to philological history as the commentator on the Gōngsūn Lóngzǐ 公孫龍子 (KR3j0007) — the only commentary on the work that survives, the earlier annotations by Chén Sìgǔ 陳嗣古 and Jiǎ Shìyǐn 賈士隱 (recorded in Zhèng Qiáo’s 鄭樵 Tōngzhì lüè 通志畧) being now lost. The Sìkù editors note that his exegesis is “rather shallow and accessible” but retain it for want of a better. CBDB id 727.
