Xiè Shí 謝石 (327–388)

Eastern Jìn statesman and general, brother of the chancellor Xiè Ān 謝安 of the Chén Commandery Xiè 陳郡謝氏. He served as Sīkōng 司空 (Minister of Works) and is recorded as having founded — or whose former mansion became — the Dàochǎngsì 道場寺 in Jiànkāng 建康, the monastery at which 佛馱跋陀羅 Buddhabhadra produced the 418–420 translation of the 60-fascicle [[KR6e0001|Dà fāngguǎng fó huáyán jīng 大方廣佛華嚴經]]. He commanded the Jìn forces (under his brother’s strategic direction) at the decisive Fēi River 淝水 victory of 383 against the Former Qín.
