Yuán–Míng transitional poet and prose writer; Tíngchén 廷臣 / Tíngjū 廷琚, alternate single-character name Què 闕 (under which he appears in Yuán-era sources such as Táo Zōngyí 陶宗儀’s Chuògēng lù 輟耕錄). Native of Chóngdé 崇德 in Jiāxìng 嘉興 (now Tóngxiāng 桐鄉, Zhèjiāng). Raised by the Yuán xiāngjiàn 鄉薦 at age 48 (1361/62); when Zhāng Shìchéng 張士誠 occupied Sūzhōu and summoned him repeatedly, declined and withdrew to Shūshān 殳山. Under Míng Hóngwǔ summoned to compile the Yuán shǐ 元史 (1370); appointed Guózǐjiàn zhùjiào 國子監助教; in 1375 transferred to the Zhōngjīng 中京 (Fèngyáng) auxiliary academy; retired in 1378; died at home the next year. Father of Bèi Áo 貝翱 (Chǔfǔ jìshàn 楚府紀善), who edited his collected works posthumously.
