Dàoyuán 道原
Northern Sòng Chán monk, abbot of Yǒng’ānyuàn 永安院 in Sūzhōu 蘇州 (some sources locate him at the Tiānshèngyuàn 天聖院). Línjì 臨濟 line, Dharma heir of Tiāntái Déshào 天台德韶 (891–972) — i.e. fifth-generation descendant of Xuěfēng Yìcún 雪峰義存 in the Fǎyǎn 法眼 branch. His own dates are not transmitted; he was active in the late tenth and very early eleventh century.
Compiler of the Jǐngdé chuándēng lù 景德傳燈錄 (KR6q0003), the most influential Chán lineage record, presented to Sòng Zhēnzōng 真宗 in 1004 (景德元年) and printed in 1011 after editorial revision by Yáng Yì 楊億 and others. No other works are reliably attributed to him.
