Guō Yōng 郭雍 (1091–1187 per CBDB id 13084; some traditional sources give a birth-year of 1106), zì Zǐhé 子和, hào Báiyún xiānshēng 白雲先生, was a Southern-Sòng scholar, philosopher, and physician of Luòyáng 洛陽 (later resident at Bǐnián 邠年 / Chángyáng 長楊, modern Húběi). Son of Guō Zhōngxiào 郭忠孝 (a student of 程頤 Chéng Yí) and bearer of one of the principal early-Southern-Sòng yī chuán 易傳 traditions, Guō is the author of three major works: the Chuán jiā Yì shuō 傳家易說 11 juan (KR1a0023), a Confucian-tradition Yì jīng commentary that transmits his father’s teaching; the Zhòngjǐng Shānghán bǔ wáng lùn 仲景傷寒補亡論 20 juan (KR3ef062, 1182), a major Southern-Sòng commentary on the Shānghán lùn that supplies (under the title “bǔ wáng” 補亡 — “supplementing what is lost”) material to fill perceived gaps in the canonical text; and several other philosophical and ritual works. Guō was repeatedly summoned to court and offered office (he was awarded honorary academician status), but refused to serve, remaining in eremitic retirement at Bǐnián. He died in 1187, aged 96 (per the 1091 CBDB birth-year). CBDB id 13084.
