Dèng Míngshì 鄧名世 (fl. 1131; CBDB id 24920), native of Línchuān 臨川 in Fǔzhōu 撫州 (Jiāngxī), was a Southern-Sòng Shàoxīng 1 (1131) jìnshì. He served under Gāozōng as Sīfēng yuánwài láng 司封員外郎 and Bùshū láng 部部郎 in the Tàicháng sì. His chief scholarly work is the Gǔjīn xìngshì shū biànzhèng 古今姓氏書辯證 (KR3k0018) in 40 juan, the principal Southern-Sòng critical xìngshū — a comprehensive correction of Lín Bǎo’s Yuánhé xìngzuǎn and Zhèng Qiáo’s Tōngzhì · Shìzú lüè — completed at the end of his life and edited posthumously by his son Dèng Chūnnián 鄧椿年. His biography is not preserved in the Sòng shǐ; what survives is largely his work and the editorial preface by his son.
