Zhèng Wéiān 鄭韋庵
A mid-Qīng lay-Buddhist scholar of Jiāngdū 江都 (= Yángzhōu 揚州, Jiāngsū). Wéiān 韋庵 is most likely a hào (sobriquet); his given name (míng) is not preserved. Author of the 《持名四十八法》 Chímíng sìshíbā fǎ KR6p0125 (X1206) — a forty-eight-method handbook of Pure Land chímíng recitation practice that has remained in continuous popular circulation in Chinese Pure Land circles from its late-Qīng composition to the present. He also composed the Jièshā fàngshēng cí 戒殺放生詞 — seven cí 詞 on the prohibition-of-killing and animal-release theme, set to the tune Xījiāng yuè 西江月 — appended to the Sìshíbā fǎ. Lifedates not preserved; the editorial layer of the work dates to the early 1860s, with the original composition somewhat earlier.
