Qián Yǎn 錢儼 (937–1003), of Hángzhōu 杭州 — younger brother of the last WúYuè 吳越 ruler 錢俶 Qián Chù (929–988), and grandson of the WúYuè founder 錢鏐 Qián Liú (852–932). He served as a senior royal of the WúYuè kingdom; on the kingdom’s voluntary submission to the Sòng in 978 he transferred to Sòng service. His historical works include the WúYuè yíshì 吳越遺事 (with a self-preface dated Kāibǎo 5 / 972) and — under the cover of his subordinate officials 范坰 Fàn Jǐong and 林禹 Lín Yǔ — the WúYuè Bèishǐ 吳越備史 KR2i0019. The pseudonymous attribution reflects the political delicacy of a defeated royal recording his own kingdom’s history under the new dynasty. CBDB id 13103 gives 937–1003 with fl. 949–978, agreeing with the standard Sòngshǐ notice of his career. CBDB id 463829 is a homonymous figure with no dates. The catalog meta has no dates; the CBDB-validated 937–1003 is adopted here.
