Āsēngjiā 阿僧伽 (= 無著菩薩)

A direct transliteration of Sanskrit Asaṅga (*“Unattached”); this is the same Indian Yogācāra master conventionally rendered as Wú-zhuó púsà 無著菩薩 in the Xuánzàng-Cí’ēn translation tradition. The transliteration Āsēngjiā 阿僧伽 is preferred in the earlier Yè / Luòyáng translation circle, especially in the KR6n0058 Shè dà-shèng lùn 攝大乘論 by 佛陀扇多 (T31n1592, c. 531), where the Indian-name form was retained rather than calqued into Chinese.
