Chén Rénzǐ 陳仁子 (fl. c. 1265–1290), zì Tóngfǔ 同俌, sobriquet Gǔyū 古迂 (“Antique-Awkward”). Native of Màolíng 茂陵 (Chángshā 長沙, Húnán). Xiānggòng (Provincial-Tribute student) at the late Southern Sòng. After 1276 declined all Yuán office and retired to the family seat at Mùlái shūyuàn 牧萊書院, where he edited and printed books. His own Mùlái cuōyǔ 牧萊脞語 KR4d0383 is preserved in the Sìkù. His major editorial achievement is the Wénxuǎn bǔyí 文選補遺 KR4h0061 (1276 preface by Zhào Wén 趙文 of Lúlíng), a 40-juǎn “supplement-and-replacement” for Xiāo Tǒng’s Wénxuǎn — controversial in the Sìkù for its dismissive treatment of the Wénxuǎn and its inclusion of pieces (e.g. Cài Wénjī’s Hújiā shíbā pāi, Bān Gù’s Yānránshān míng) that the SKQS editors judge contrary to zhèngzōng (orthodox) standards. He is also closely associated with the printing of the Mùlái edition of the Wénxuǎn. CBDB person 47765 (flourished by 1269). Pán Zōngzhōu 潘宗周 has a study of his publishing activities.
