Chén Hóngxù 陳弘緒 / 陳宏緒 (1597–1665), Shìyè 士業, of Xīnjiàn 新建 (Nánchāng, Jiāngxī), was a late-Míng / early-Qīng literatus and Míng-loyalist. Recommended and appointed Magistrate of Jìnzhōu under Chóngzhēn, he refused the Cabinet Minister Liú Yǔliàng’s request to deploy troops into his prefecture and was demoted to Húzhōufǔ jīnglì (Húzhōu Prefectural Manager). He retired in protest to his native Nánchāng and survived the 1644 MíngQīng transition and post-conquest era as a private literatus, never serving the Qīng. His principal topographical work is the Jiāngchéng míngjì (KR2k0099) in 4 juan, the principal documentary monograph on Nánchāng before the Qiánlóng era. The Sìkù-era form of his name 陳宏緒 reflects the Qiánlóng-era taboo on Hónglì 弘曆 (the Qiánlóng emperor’s personal name); his original name was 弘緒. CBDB id 81681 confirms 1597–1665.
