Chén Yǔmó 陳禹謨 (1548–1618; CBDB id 130879), native of Chángshú 常熟, was a Wàn-lì-period 萬曆 jǔrén and bibliophile-collator. His chief enduring contribution is the bǔzhù 補註 recension of Yú Shìnán’s Běitáng shūchāo 北堂書鈔 (KR3k0004) — for centuries the only complete version in circulation. The Sìkù editors hand down a mixed verdict: Chén did supplement large lacunae and marked his additions systematically with the character bǔ 補, allowing the Táng-era stratum to be read off the page; but he also silently amended what he found, drawing Qián Céng’s and Zhū Yízūn’s later complaints that he had “mixed in post-Zhēn-guān events and even Five-Dynasties Ten-Kingdoms titles, wholly losing the original look of the book”. Several other Chén Yǔmó editions of Sòng and Yuán lèishū survive only in the Sìkù, all under the bǔ / bǔzhù designation.
