Lù Jiǔyuān 陸九淵 (1139–1193, Zǐjìng 子靜, hào Xiàngshān 象山, posthumous title Wén’ān 文安), of Jīnxī 金谿 in Fǔzhōu 撫州 (modern Jiāngxī). Jìnshì of Qiándào 8 (1172). Held office to Tàichángsì zhèng and Zhī Jīngménjūn. Younger brother of Lù Jiǔshāo 陸九韶 and Lù Jiǔlíng 陸九齡 (the Three Lùs of Jīnxī). Founder of xīnxué 心學 (mind-learning), the principal Southern-Sòng alternative to Zhū Xī’s 朱熹 lǐxué. Met Zhū Xī at the Éhú 鵝湖 conference of 1175 organized by Lǚ Zǔqiān 呂祖謙; sustained a 17-year polemical correspondence with Zhū over Tàijí/Wújí (1188 letters preserved in KR4d0253 juǎn 2). Lectured on Lùnyǔ at Zhū Xī’s Báilùdòng shūyuàn in 1181. Built a hut on Mt. Xiàngshān in Guìxī and taught a wide following including 楊簡, 袁燮, and 舒璘.
