Mǎ Lìng 馬令 (fl. 1105), of Yíxīng 宜興 (modern Jiāngsū), late-Northern-Sòng historian. He was the grandson of 馬元康 Mǎ Yuánkāng (Tàibó 太傅), a man of Jīnlíng 金陵 (Nánjīng) for generations who had collected the gùshì 故事 of the Southern Táng but had not lived to compile them. Mǎ Lìng undertook the project in fulfillment of the family xiānzhì and produced the Mǎshì NánTáng Shū 馬氏南唐書 KR2i0017 in 30 juàn, dated by the author’s own preface to Chóngníng 崇寧 4 / Yǐyǒu 乙酉 (= 1105). His official career — if any — is not preserved; he is known solely as a historian. CBDB id 449664 has no dates. Beyond the firm floruit of 1105, no biographical detail survives. (The Yuán-period preface to 陸游’s recension by Zhào Shìyán 趙世延 confused Mǎ Lìng’s grandfather Mǎ Yuánkāng with the actual author, an error long since corrected.)
