Late-Míng Dōnglín 東林 scholar from Chángān 長安 (modern Xī’ān), courtesy name Zhònghǎo 仲好, sobriquet Shǎoxū 少墟. CBDB id 34744 attests his lifedates as 1556–1627. He took the jìnshì in Wànlì jǐchǒu (1589) and was changed to shùjíshì 庶吉士, then to yùshǐ 御史; he was caned in the tíngzhàng 廷杖 for an outspoken memorial. He rose through Zuǒfù dūyùshǐ 左副都御史; he resigned over the Hóngwán (Red Pill) and Tǐngjī (Beating-with-the-Mace) court scandals of late Wànlì. He was recalled as Gōngbù shàngshū 工部尚書 but declined; under Wèi Zhōngxián 魏忠賢’s eunuch dictatorship he was stripped of office (1626); after Wèi’s fall he was rehabilitated and posthumously titled Gōngdìng 恭定. He is one of the principal Guānzhōng (Shǎnxī) Lǐxué thinkers of the late Míng and a leading Dōnglín affiliate. His major works include the Guānxué biān 關學編, the Shǎoxū jí 少墟集, and the Yuánrú kǎolüè 元儒考略 (KR2g0041) — the latter the principal late-Míng survey of Yuán Confucian scholarship.
