Huáng Zuǒ 黃佐 (1490–1566), zì Cáibó 才伯, hào Tàiquán 泰泉, native of Xiāngshān 香山 (modern Zhōngshān, Guǎngdōng). Jìnshì of Jiājìng 1 (1521); held a series of senior provincial offices including Hànlínyuàn xiūzhuàn, Guǎngxī tíxué qiānshì (Guǎngxī Education Commissioner), and ultimately Nánjīng Guózǐ jiān jìjiǔ (Director of the Southern Imperial Academy at Nánjīng). A staunch Cheng-Zhu Confucian who debated Wáng Yángmíng on zhīxíng héyī and was respected by Wáng for his zhíliàng (directness) without becoming a Wáng-school adherent.
