Róngcūn yǔlù 榕村語錄
Recorded Sayings of Master Róng-cūn sayings of 李光地 (Lǐ Guāngdì, hào Róngcūn 榕村, 1642–1718, 清, 撰); compiled by 徐用錫 (Xú Yòngxī, 1656–1737, 清, 輯) and 李清植 (Lǐ Qīngzhí, 1690–1744, 清, 輯)
About the work
A 30-juan posthumous yǔlù of Lǐ Guāngdì — the leading Kāngxī-court Lǐxué official — compiled by his pupil Xú Yòngxī and his grandson Lǐ Qīngzhí. The work records Lǐ’s jiǎngxué discussions across his career and is the principal source for Lǐ’s mature philosophical-political positions outside his imperially-commissioned compilations (the Yù zuǎn xìnglǐ jīng yì KR3a0107 and Zhūzǐ quán shū KR3a0108). The composition window: bracketed by Lǐ’s mature lecturing-career (post-1670) and the editorial work by his successors (likely 1720s–1740s, before Lǐ Qīngzhí’s 1744 death). The frontmatter brackets to ca. 1670–1740.
Abstract
The Róngcūn yǔlù is the principal source for Lǐ Guāngdì’s mature thought outside his imperial commissions. Substantively the work establishes Lǐ’s distinct positions on Lǐxué doctrinal questions, including his sober but firm Zhū-Xī-loyalist response to the Wáng Yángmíng tradition.
