Yuánzǐ zhèngshū 袁子正書
The Correct Writings of Master Yuán by 袁準 (Yuán Zhǔn, fl. mid–late 3rd century, 晉)
About the work
A lost Western Jìn 西晉 zǐbù treatise by Yuán Zhǔn 袁準 (son of Yuán Huàn 袁渙, the famous Wèi-period official). Reconstructed from quotations in 《初學記》, 《北堂書鈔》, 《太平御覽》, 《字林》, 《文選注》 (Li Shàn’s notes on Rèn Fǎng’s poems and edicts), and other Táng leishu. Not in the Sìkù quánshū; sourced from CHANT (CH2a1380).
Abstract
Yuán Zhǔn’s two surviving zǐ-house works — the Zhèngshū 正書 (this entry) and the Zhènglùn 正論 (cf. KR3a0130) — are commonly treated as a pair in the bibliographic record; some Sòng catalogs collapse them. The Suí shū jīngjí zhì 隋書經籍志 lists a Yuánzǐ 袁子 in 19 juàn attributed to Yuán Zhǔn, of which only fragments survive. The reconstructed Zhèngshū covers ritual and institutional discussion (especially the calendar of mourning, the xiǎogōng 小功 grade, and other ritual topics), classical exegesis (notes on the Chūnqiū), and short essays on government. As a son of Yuán Huàn — and a contemporary of the late Wèi and early Jìn courts — Yuán Zhǔn is regularly cited by Péi Sōngzhī in the Sānguó zhì commentary on Wèi history. The date-bracket here is taken as the Western Jìn period (265–316); the Sānguó zhì commentary and Jìn shū notices suggest he was active in the Tàishǐ 泰始 (265–274) and following reigns.
