Verified Whole-Body Acupoint Method Song by 廖潤鴻 Liào Rùnhóng (撰)
About the work
A single-juan mnemonic-verse acupuncture handbook by 廖潤鴻 Liào Rùnhóng, completed and printed in Tóngzhì 13 (1874, jiǎxū), winter. This is the stand-alone version of the verse-mnemonic that Liào appended to his Zhēnjiǔ jíchéng (KR3ee007) and to the Miǎnxuétáng zhēnjiǔ jíchéng (KR3ee037); the prefaces of all three works are virtually identical, recounting the same autobiography of frustration in Beijing officialdom, encounter with the Zhēnjiǔ dàchéng (KR3ee027), and re-versification of the acupoint material into five-syllable verse. The text proceeds channel-by-channel through the standard twelve regular channels plus rèn and dū, giving for each channel the acupoint sequence and a five-character-per-line mnemonic — e.g. for the Lung channel: “Hand Tàiyīn Lung Channel, in the yīng (chest) area, the yáo point — at Zhōngfǔ…” (手太陰肺經,膺間中…).
Abstract
This is the most-copied late-Qīng acupuncture-handbook in the Húnán region; Liào’s five-character verses replaced the older Zhōushēn jīngxué fù 周身經穴賦 as the standard memorization material in late-Qīng acupuncture schools. The work is bound together with reduced-scale woodblock reproductions of the Tóngrén (Bronze Figure) acupoint diagrams “for the convenience of the desktop reader” (以便案頭搜討). The 1874 first edition was issued by the bookseller 饒松圃 Ráo Sōngpǔ of the Húnán Lùjiāng 淥江 community; subsequent reprints appended it to either KR3ee007 or KR3ee037.
