Miǎnxuétáng zhēnjiǔ jíchéng 勉學堂針灸集成
Miǎnxuétáng Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion by 廖潤鴻 Liào Rùnhóng (撰)
About the work
A four-juan late-Qīng acupuncture compendium by 廖潤鴻 Liào Rùnhóng, issued from his “Miǎnxuétáng” 勉學堂 (“Strive-to-Learn Hall”) in Tóngzhì 13 (1874, jiǎxū). The preface is identical in substance to that of KR3ee007 (also titled Zhēnjiǔ jíchéng and also dated 1874) — recounting Liào’s frustration in Beijing officialdom, his encounter with the Yīzōng jīnjiàn (KR3ee015) acupuncture-curriculum verses, and his project of re-versifying them as five-character mnemonics with reduced-scale Tóngrén acupoint diagrams. The relationship between KR3ee007 and the present KR3ee037 is that the two are alternate titles for the same compilation, with KR3ee007 being the basic acupoint-verse-and-diagram handbook and KR3ee037 being the expanded Miǎnxuétáng edition that adds full clinical-syndrome chapters drawn from the Yīzōng jīnjiàn cìjiǔ xīnfǎ yàojué (KR3ee015). Both share the Kǎozhèng zhōushēn xuéfǎ gē (KR3ee032) as the verse-mnemonic core.
Abstract
The Miǎnxuétáng zhēnjiǔ jíchéng is the most-reproduced of Liào Rùnhóng’s late-Qīng acupuncture handbooks; it was the standard portable acupuncture-textbook in the Húnán medical-education community from the 1870s through the Republican period. Its didactic structure — five-character verse mnemonic + reduced-scale acupoint atlas + clinical-syndrome indications — is the principal late-Qīng pedagogical model from which the post-1949 PRC TCM acupuncture textbooks derive.
