Shānghán zuǎn lùn 傷寒纘論
Compiled Discourse on Cold Damage by 張璐 (Zhāng Lù, zì Lùyù 路玉, hào Shíwán Lǎorén 石頑老人, 1617–1700, 清)
About the work
A two-juan early-Qīng commentary on the Shānghán lùn by the great Sūzhōu physician 張璐 Zhāng Lù, completed 1667. The Zuǎn lùn is paired with Zhāng’s Shānghán xù lùn 傷寒緒論 in a unified set published as the Shānghán zuǎnxù lùn (KR3ef021); the Zuǎn lùn presents Zhāng’s annotation of the canonical Shānghán text, while the Xù lùn (Threads) extends the commentary to ancillary clinical problems. Zhāng Lù is counted with 喻昌 Yú Chāng and 吳謙 Wú Qiān as one of the “Three Great Physicians of the Early Qīng.”
Abstract
The composition date 1667 is given by Zhāng’s preface, signed Kāngxī 6. Zhāng follows the Chángshā fùgǔ (ancient-text-restoration) line of 方有執 Fāng Yǒuzhí and 喻昌 Yú Chāng but tempers the polemical edge of those works, retaining selected glosses from 成無己 Chéng Wúyǐ. The Zuǎn lùn is the first work of Zhāng’s mature medical œuvre, preceding his great Yī tōng 醫通 (KR3e0095, 1695) by nearly thirty years.
