About the work
A four-juan mid-Qiánlóng “reader” of the Shānghán lùn by the Sūzhōu physician 沈又彭 Shěn Yòupéng, prepared as a pedagogical re-arrangement of the canonical text by clinical pattern. The work is similar in conception to 柯琴 Kē Qín’s Lái sū jí (KR3ef013), but more concise and explicitly didactic — preparing the Shānghán materials for student use rather than scholarly debate.
Abstract
The composition window of ca. 1764–1796 brackets the Qiánlóng middle to late period during which Shěn was active. Shěn was also the author of a parallel Nǚ kē jí yào 女科輯要 (gynecology compendium) and miscellaneous case-records. He is a representative figure of the mid-Qiánlóng Sūzhōu pedagogical-medicine line, working in the tradition of 尤怡 Yóu Yí and 徐大椿 Xú Dàchūn.
