Héjiān Shānghán xīn yào 河間傷寒心要

Héjiān’s Essential Heart of Cold Damage by 鎦洪 (Liú Hóng, fl. late Jīn / early Yuán, 1200s–1270s)

About the work

A short Jīn / Yuán treatise in one juan compiling and summarizing the doctrines of 劉完素 Liú Wánsù’s “fire-and-heat” Shānghán school, by 鎦洪 Líu Hóng — a Héjiān-school disciple of Liú Wánsù’s lineage. The work is a key vehicle for the transmission of Liú Wánsù’s Shānghán doctrine into the Yuán-period medical curriculum.

Abstract

The composition window 1200–1280 brackets the late Jīn and early Yuán activity of Liú’s school. Liú Hóng (note: the surname character 鎦 is a less-common form of 劉) is mentioned in the standard JīnYuán medical bibliography but his exact biographical details are not preserved beyond his role as a Héjiān-school commentator. The work is preserved within the Héjiān liù shū 河間六書 corpus and is sometimes treated as supplementary to Liú Wánsù’s Shānghán biāoběn xīnfǎ lèicuì (KR3ef009).
