A six-juǎn gynecological section of 鄭玉壇 Zhèng Yùtán’s larger medical compendium Tóngyuán yīshū 彤園醫書 (彤園醫書). The work covers the canonical fùkē topics — tiáojīng, jīngbì, bēnglòu, dàixià, jījù 積聚, zhēngjiǎ 癥瘕, sìyù 嗣育, zhǒngzǐ, tāiqián, chǎnhòu, rǔjí 乳疾 (breast conditions), qiányīn 前陰 (genital conditions) — explicitly framed as a zhézhōng qúnshū 折衷群書 (compromise-synthesis of multiple sources) drawing on the Sòng-Yuán-Míng-Qīng tradition.
Prefaces
The KR hxwd recension _001.txt opens with a fùkē zǒngkuò 婦科總括 (general summary of women’s medicine), without a separable author-preface. The work explicitly references the editor’s parent compilation Dàfāngmài 大方脈 (大方脈, “Major Pulse-and-Therapy”) as the prerequisite primary reading.
Abstract
鄭玉壇 Zhèng Yùtán (hào Tóngyuánzhǔrén 彤園主人) was a mid-Qīng physician who issued the Tóngyuán yīshū 彤園醫書, a comprehensive medical compendium organised by specialty. The Tóngyuán (Vermillion-Garden) studio name appears in late-Jiāqìng / Dàoguāng-era imprints. The work is best dated to the early 19th century; notBefore 1801 / notAfter 1850 is a defensible bracket. The catalog meta dynasty 清 is correct.
Doctrinally the work is zhézhōng 折衷 (compromise-synthesis), citing 寇宗奭 Kòu Zōngshí’s “better treat ten men than one woman” maxim in the zǒngkuò opening and drawing on the standard late-imperial gynecological synthesis (陳自明 Chén Zìmíng, 薛己 Xuē Jǐ, 武之望 Wǔ Zhīwàng, 王肯堂 Wáng Kěntáng, 張介賓 Zhāng Jièbīn, the Yīzōng jīnjiàn KR3e0090). The work belongs to the mid-Qīng popular practitioner-textbook tradition; it does not advance an original doctrinal position but provides a portable systematic synthesis of the major gynecological positions.
