About the work

A three-juan Yuán commentary by Xū Yuányī 胥元一 (hào Liúxū sǎnrén 六虛散人), a native of Tōngchuān 潼川 (Sichuan). Xū also wrote a commentary on the Lǎozǐ in 1291 (cf. [[KR5a0723|DZ 723 Dàodé zhēnjīng jíyì dàzhǐ]] 1.11a), which was included in [[KR5a0724|DZ 724 Dàodé zhēnjīng jíyì]]. In the present work, Xū interprets the Yīnfú jīng as a “method for the cultivation of the mind” (xīnfǎ 心法). The main text comprises 441 characters, divided into three parts each with a separate heading. As stated by Xū, cultivating the Dào is the same as cultivating one’s mind (xiūdào jí xiūxīn 修道即修心; 1.2b). His explanations are clearly Neo-Confucian in outlook.
