by 王玠 (Wáng Jiè; early 14th cent.)

An early-Yuán commentary on the Cháng qīng jìng jīng (DZ 620) with illustrative diagrams (zuǎn tú 纂圖), by Wáng Jiè 王玠. Preserved in the Zhèngtǒng Dàozàng as DZ 760 / CT 760 (Dòngshén bù, Yù jué lèi 洞神部玉訣類) in 1 juàn.

About the work

Distinctive feature: diagrams

The distinctive feature of this commentary is its integration of illustrative diagrams (zuǎn tú 纂圖) alongside the textual explanation. These visualise:

  1. Cosmological concepts — the Tài jí 太極, Wú jí 無極, yīnyáng, and related structures.
  2. Nèi dān 內丹 cultivation processes — the flow of jīng, , shén through the body.
  3. Meditative stages — illustrating the scripture’s cultivation-sequence.

This diagrammatic approach is characteristic of mature Yuán-era nèi dān literature, following the precedent of Chén Tuán’s 陳摶 (d. 989) Tài jí tú and its subsequent development under Shào Yōng 邵雍 and Zhōu Dūnyí 周敦頤.

Author

Wáng Jiè 王玠 — early 14th-century Daoist scholar, otherwise little-documented.
