About the work
Gé Hóng and his Bào pǔ zǐ
Gé Hóng 葛洪 (zì Zhì chuān 稚川, hào Bào pǔ zǐ 抱朴子) — 283–343 — is the foundational theorist of Chinese outer alchemy (wài dān 外丹) and of the classical Tài qīng 太清 Daoist tradition. His Bào pǔ zǐ (inner chapters and outer chapters) is one of the most important early medieval Chinese Daoist works.
Pseudepigraphy
The present short Táng-era yǎng shēng treatise is not an authentic work of Gé Hóng but a Táng composition under his prestigious authorial attribution — a common practice in the Daoist tradition.
