Supreme Ultimate Ordering the World

by 邵雍 (Shào Yōng, 1011–1077) — Northern-Sòng cosmologist

Shào Yōng’s monumental cosmological-historical treatise — a numerological system that charts the entire history of the cosmos and of human civilization on a single grid of yuán 元 – huì 會 – yùn 運 – shì 世 units (super-era / era / period / generation), each the product of successive multiplications by 12 and 30. World-cycles of 129,600 years; within these, smaller cycles of astronomical, political, and personal events. The system is articulated in 12 juàn of tables, verse, and prose. Along with the Cān tóng qì it is a foundational reference for East Asian speculative numerology. Preserved as DZ 1040 / CT 1040 (Tài xuán bù 太玄部).
