A three-juàn dialogue-compendium recording Wǔ Shǒuyáng’s instruction on Buddhist-Daoist syncretist inner-alchemy, structured around the Q-and-A Jí Wáng Zhū Tàihé shíjiǔ wèn 吉王朱太和十九問 (“the Nineteen Questions of Prince Tàihé of Jí”) — a remarkable real-world dialogue: Wǔ Shǒuyáng’s interlocutor is Zhū Tàihé 朱太和 (hào Yúnshuǐ 雲水, of the Zōngrénfǔ Yùdié generation-name Chángchún 常湻), a prince of Jí 吉王 — i.e., a Míng imperial clansman, great-grandson of (per the WǔLiǔ tradition) the Wànlì emperor. The compendium thus situates the WǔLiǔ doctrine at the highest social register of late-Míng Daoism, with a Míng prince as the principal disciple.
Prefaces
The text opens directly with the Nineteen Questions (no external preface), a self-contained pedagogical structure: each question by Prince Zhū is followed by Wǔ Shǒuyáng’s answer in formal yǔlù style, with secondary annotations by Wǔ Shǒuxū zhēnyángzǐ sometimes inserted in commentary script.
Abstract
A foundational text of the WǔLiǔ pài lineage, dating to the late Wànlì or early Tiānqǐ (c. 1620–1640) and circulating with the Tiānxiān zhènglǐ (KR5i0067) as Wǔ Shǒuyáng’s principal output. The compendium is the public face of the WǔLiǔ Buddhist-Daoist syncretism: Wǔ deliberately uses Buddhist Chán terminology (notably yuánjué 圓覺 and xiāntiān yī qì 先天一氣 as paired absolute terms) to harmonise the Quánzhēn / Lóngmén inner-alchemy curriculum with the Buddhist enlightenment tradition. The Q-and-A format makes the doctrine accessible step-by-step, in contrast with the more programmatic Tiānxiān zhènglǐ.
The Jí Wáng identification is significant: the Jí principality (吉王) was established by the Míng for descendants of the Wànlì emperor. The presence of a Jí prince as principal disciple gives the WǔLiǔ tradition’s foundational-period a high-imperial pedigree — paralleling the inner-court Daoist printing of KR5i0020 and KR5i0031 under Gāo Shímíng.
