Sān bǎo wàn líng fǎ chàn 三寶萬靈法懺
Repentance-Method to the Three Treasures and the Myriad Numina
reviewed (閱) by 下元道士王守上 (the Xiàyuán Daoist priest Wáng Shǒushàng)
A three-juàn liturgical repentance text, an item from the Chàn fǎ dà guān family (KR5i0076) extracted for separate printing. The text addresses the Three Treasures (三寶 = the Sānqīng / Three Pure Ones — Yùqīng, Shàngqīng, Tàiqīng — and their respective heavenly-worthy retinues) and the Myriad Numina (萬靈 = the universal Daoist pantheon down to the local deities). The format is the standard Daoist kēyí (ritual sequence): purification, jìng kǒu (mouth-purifying), kāi chàn xiāng wén (incense-text for opening the repentance), bǎo gào (treasure proclamations), the chants proper, sān bǎo gào (proclamation to the Three Treasures), and the closing dispatch.
Prefaces
The text bears no separate preface; the kāi chàn xiāng wén (incense-text for opening the repentance) at the head opens directly with the Daoist’s request to the spirits.
Abstract
A standard Daoist liturgical fǎ chàn (repentance liturgy), reviewed for the 1809 DZJY by Wáng Shǒushàng under his title Xiàyuán dàoshì — the Xiàyuán (15th of 10th lunar month) being one of the three Yuán festivals. Composition of the text is c. 1700–1809; reception in the DZJY signals its acceptance into the planchette-circle’s standard liturgical repertoire. The text is liturgically continuous with the KR5i0076 Chàn fǎ dà guān tradition.
