A multi-juàn anthology of liturgical document-formularies (wén jiǎn = templates for the biǎo, zòu, guān, dié, piē, etc. that Daoist priests submit to the heavenly bureaux in jiào / zhāi rituals). The work is the principal late-imperial successor to the Sòng Líng bǎo wén jiǎn tradition and to the Míng Jīn Níng èr zhēnrén Líng bǎo wén jiǎn (cf. KR5i0093 preface). The text is paired with the parallel Lǚ Pǔān Dào mén dìng zhì 道門定制 in the standard liturgical-document corpus.

Prefaces

Preface (Chūnxīshì), dated 道光庚子皋月天中前日 ≈ 14 June 1840. Frames the work in the standard zhù gào (libation-call) tradition of the Zhōu lǐ, situating the Daoist wén jiǎn in the line of Confucian liturgical-documentation. Praises Hánpǔ Chénzǐ as a long-time Pure-Stillness Lǎojūn devotee with talismanic and sword-arts mastery, who has produced this comprehensive set of liturgical-documents for the use of contemporary Daoist priests. The preface is itself in the high parallel-prose register characteristic of late-Qīng liturgical-document tradition.

Abstract

A late-Qīng (Dàoguāng era) liturgical-document anthology, with the 1840 terminus ad quem indicating that this work was added to DZJY only in the post-1809 supplement (likely in Hé Lóngxiāng’s 1906 expansion). The base composition by Hánpǔ Chénzǐ may be earlier (MíngQīng transition or early Qīng).
