About the work

A two-fascicle Liáng-dynasty Chinese translation of the Saptaśatikā Prajñāpāramitā (700-verse Prajñāpāramitā) — the Mañjuśrī-discourse prajñā-sūtra. Translated by Mandrasena 曼陀羅仙. Signature: 「梁扶南國三藏曼陀羅仙譯」. The Taishō header cross-references [KR6c0001|T220] (玄奘 Xuánzàng’s later integration as the seventh huì of T220) and T233 (僧伽婆羅 Saṃghapāla’s parallel translation).

Abstract

T232 is one of two Liáng-dynasty Chinese translations of the Saptaśatikā — together with T233 by 僧伽婆羅 Saṃghapāla — produced under Liáng Wǔdì’s translation patronage. The Indic source is the Saptaśatikā Prajñāpāramitā, also known as the Mañjuśrī-paripṛcchā Prajñāpāramitā; Sanskrit edition Tucci 1923. The work is doctrinally distinctive in that it presents the prajñāpāramitā-doctrine through Mañjuśrī’s voice rather than through the standard bodhisattva-disciple frame, integrating the Mañjuśrī-cult into prajñā-doctrine.
