About the work
A four-juan late-Míng commentary on Huìsī’s Dàshèng zhǐguān fǎmén (KR6d0152, T1924) by Ǒuyì Zhìxù 蕅益智旭 (1599–1655), one of the Míngmò sìdà gāosēng 明末四大高僧. The work is the principal late-Míng commentary on Huìsī’s foundational meditation manual, complementing Liǎorán’s Sòng Zōngyuán jì (KR6d0153).

Abstract
Zhìxù’s Shìyào belongs to his late-Míng systematic Tiāntái pedagogical project, alongside his commentaries on the Lotus Sūtra (KR6d0010, KR6d0081, KR6d0082) and his other Tiāntái scholastic productions. The work integrates Huìsī’s foundational meditation manual into Zhìxù’s late-Míng Tiāntái-Pure Land synthetic apparatus, providing the standard late-Míng-and-Qīng accessible commentary on the work.
The composition is bracketed within Zhìxù’s mature productive period c. 1641–1655.
