Fǎhuá shí miào bùèr mén shìzhū zhǐ 法華十妙不二門示珠指
Showing-the-Pearl Indicators of the Lotus’s Ten Wonders and Non-Dual Gates by 源清 (Yuánqīng / Fèngxiān Yuánqīng, 述)
About the work
A two-juan Northern-Sòng commentary by Yuánqīng 源清 (d. 1000) on Zhànrán’s Shí bùèr mén (KR6d0157, T1927) integrated with the broader Lotus shí miào 十妙 (“ten wonders”) doctrinal apparatus of Zhìyǐ’s Xuányì. The work is the earliest of the substantial Sòng Shí bùèr mén commentaries.
Abstract
Yuánqīng’s Shìzhū zhǐ belongs to the very early Northern-Sòng productive period (Yuánqīng died in 1000, twenty-eight years before Zhīlǐ), making it the earliest substantial Sòng-period commentary on Zhànrán’s Shí bùèr mén — predating Zhīlǐ’s foundational Zhǐyào chāo (KR6d0158) by some quarter-century. The work is consequently of substantial historiographical interest as evidence for the pre-Zhīlǐ Sòng Tiāntái scholastic tradition.
The composition is bracketed within Yuánqīng’s productive period c. 980–1000.
