About the work
A single-juan Northern-Sòng annotated commentary by Zōngyì 宗翌 on Zhànrán’s Shí bùèr mén (KR6d0157, T1927). The composition is securely dated by Zōngyì’s own preface to Xiánpíng 咸平 1 (= 998 CE).
Abstract
The work belongs together with Yuánqīng’s Shìzhū zhǐ (KR6d0160) as one of the very earliest Sòng commentaries on Zhànrán’s Shí bùèr mén, predating Zhīlǐ’s foundational Zhǐyào chāo (KR6d0158) by three decades. The 998 dating places the work in the immediate aftermath of the Five Dynasties period and at the beginning of the Northern-Sòng Tiāntái revival.
